Ragging is a disturbing reality in the higher education system of our country. It covers all acts of violence, physical or mental between two or more senior or junior students. The incidences of ragging in the educational institutions have become a matter of serious concern for all right thinking people of all walks of life. It has not only ruined the careers of many young students but also severely affected their families. The honourable Supreme Court of India has issues clear and strict directives to the MHRD and URG to curb this menace of ragging which in turn has also been communicated to educational institutions for strict adherence. As per the directives of the highest court of the country and the recommentation of the Raghavan Committee, Golaghat Polytechnic has been taking very strong and effective measures against ragging, some of which are as listed below:

• Display of posters at the prominent places in the Institute informing the students to abstain from ragging
• Constitution of Anti-Ragging Committee, Anti-Ragging Squad, etc. as per UGC's Regulations on Ragging
• Affidavit from the students and their parents/guardians to the effect that they are aware of the Institute's stand towards ragging
• The Anti-Ragging helpline number is provided in the institute website
• Inform local police and authorities the details of every privately/commercially manage hostels or lodges of students enrolled in the institutions
• Divide each batch of freshers, on arrival at the institution into small groups and is each such group assigned to a member of the faculty
• A letter to the parents/ gaurdians of the students who are completing their first year in the institution, informing them about these Regulations and any law for the time being in force prohibiting ragging and the punishments thereof is available in the institute website and the same is inform to the students and parents/guardians through WhatsApp group, Socaial Networking sites, etc.
